on friday, i sat on the floor of a second grade classroom and for two hours played knicker box, a colonial marble game...i laughed with them, i cheered with them, i took in their enthusiasm...dressed in colonial clothing each group that came through proudly showed off the sock dolls and tin punches and quill writing and ring toss games they had made that day...they proudly danced the virginia reel in the gym to the cheers of their parents...a dance they had been rehearsing for weeks...later, i came home to the horror that unfolded at sandy hook elementary school and sat in disbelief...my heart is breaking for those children who won't get their turn to dance and for the parents who won't get their turn to cheer.
