a stretch of days a few weeks ago just warm enough to leave the coats at home but not warm enough to venture into the stream...for me, perfect...for my little friends, a hard line to walk...at least they tried.

halloween catch up...a native american and a cowgirl...pulled together and matched without meaning to...

vintage (four!) piece cowgirl costume found at a rummage sale...leather gun holster found at a church sale last spring by my son...vintage native american costume originally handmade for an adult but after sitting in a bin in the attic for years and years was happy to be reworked to fit a seven year old...peace pipe and drum, both old boy scout projects found at a yard sale this summer...added a few new accessories and we were done...but our little cowgirl had plans of her own...

can't say i minded too much.

dresses are for twirling...babies are for hugging....mirrors are for smiling...i have a very good teacher.

a birthday party for a little girl who loves horses..i know a little boy that's quite fond of them now too.

"they match, mama. i'm gonna wear these, i think".  if the shoe doesn't fit...wear it anyway...just as long as it matches.

this easter...under warm sunny skies with baskets in hand... running and searching, thinking its grand...finding treats hidden well by you-know-who...dressed up in vintage stripes and polka dots too...

a certain little girl loves to wear her nightgown in the morning...thinking its a fancy way to dress when you rock your babies...laughing as she walks with bare feet on the cold floors..a certain mama loves these mornings thinking its a perfect way to ease into the day...laughing with her little girl.

big plans in store for this little antique dress/slip found at the thrift store...involving a needle and thread and perhaps even the sewing machine...and it needs to be done quickly because warmer weather is on its way...and because someone is growing far too fast these days...and because i know if i find it at the bottom of my things to do/sew pile at the end of the summer i will not be very happy...and because with her personality growing fast these days too, she will not be very happy either.

this past weekend had me remembering that it's fun to dress up for parties even when its not required...sometimes all it takes is an invitation from a five year old to dress as fancy as you'd like...

christmas morning...always new, matching pjs and a new tradition...one vintage gift each from mama and daddy...this year a fold out ruler and a necklace pouch for holding small baby dolls...christmas evening...vintage shoes and vintage plaid tie...looking fancy for dinner...hope everyone had a merry day filled with tradition and with smiles...

favorite things that i never wear...i have...probably too many...kept there for an occasion or better yet, worn in my head all the time when i picture what i think i would be wearing...but for one (usually self-conscious) reason or another, they don't make it out of the closet...except when i am having one of those days where i feel like going through...looking...trying on...maybe clearing out a little too...earlier this week on a somewhat grey afternoon, i had one of those days...for the first time though, my little girl was watching...when i put on this super soft (and very orange) lightweight vintage wool coat that has hung unworn for a few years now...she said "ooohhh" and "wow" and "ooohhh" again...with a reaction like that how could i  resist...even with nowhere special to go.

i gasped a little when i saw this dress tucked deep in a rack at an antique shop...pregnant at the time, i knew right away i would display it in my little girl's room...i imagine her wearing this dress in a few years over something very modern and black...with boots, i think...i wonder if she will refuse because it is old and worn or if instead she will remember it hanging there next to her crib and think, when she tries it on, how cool it is that she is wearing art...

a dark and rainy summer day...pajamas are in order...and some vintage necklaces...for just the right amount of sparkle...

oh how happy i am that this little bit of vintage goodness actually still fits this summer...it was one of my favorite gifts last year...so sweet and yummy that i think i might have even cried when i opened it...but sadly, it was too big, and so it sat in her dresser drawer and every now and then i would take it out...just to smile at it...when the weather started heating up, i was reluctant to try it on her...worried that now it would be too small...but it's a perfect fit and even sweeter and yummier than before.

a vintage pinafore with sweet little flowers...sometimes mama gets to wear them too...

the best find of the weekend...pop out sandal skates...
which will be rolling into the shop...
